Premiere: Electric Religious - Paralyzed

Based in amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) on Treaty 6 territory, Electric Religious is the project of Métis singer-songwriter, Brandon Baker, who fuses guitar-heavy rock and blues with pop to create a chart-ready sound for the masses that is actually fulled by real instruments.

Nominated for “Métis Artist of the Year” at the 2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards, Electric Religious dropped their sophomore album, Tragic Lover, on September 24th and it’s lead off single has been steadily climbing the Indigenous Music Countdown ever since. The album deals with Baker diving further into his heritage and tackles themes of displacement, hope, intergenerational trauma, and healing.

Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to share the video for the records third single, “Paralyzed.” Shot in the heart of the Alberta Badlands and set at the turn of the last century, it tells the story of a boy and his young sister, whose lives take a sudden turn for the worse at the hands of a group of bandits. The boy is tasked with saving his sister, armed only with the knowledge of the land his father taught him. The video features Brandon Baker, his life partner, Olivia Street, and even their son, Arthur Baker.
