Premiere: Darryl Kissick - Fell

It’s been some time since we’ve heard from Regina’s Darryl Kissick. Coming off the successful release of the self-titled Foxwarren album (an album that we loved and named a “Pick Of The Week” upon its release), Kissick is riding that momentum into an album cycle for his new, soon-to-be released record, My Sunshine.

If you’re unfamiliar with Darryl Kissick’s solo work, he creates beautiful sound collages through harmonization, typically using three to four different voices together at all times. The ensemble sings over creative folk sounds that sometimes veer into experimental territory. His debut solo album was released in 2017 and featured seven different voices (including all the members Foxwarren). My Sunshine is the follow-up to that debut. It arrives this Friday (Oct 8th) and features contributions from the rest his Foxwarren compatriots, (minus Andy Shauf) and some other familiar collaborators in Meghan Bowman (vocals), Andrea Hedlund (vocals, violin), and Echo Zoë (violin). It will arrive digitally and on vinyl, pre-orders are available here.

Just ahead of the release date, the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to be premiere the second single, “Fell.” The track is Kissick’s favourite on the album, perhaps due to the work he had to put into it to be satisfied with its outcome as he explains:

As with all the songs on this album, this was a difficult track to finish. I have a habit of coming up with way too many parts for a song and then it's a chore to try to condense it into something 3 or 4 minutes in length.”

Enjoy!
