Premiere: Matt Steele - Falling Asleep at the Metal Show

Halifax’ Matt Steele has used the pandemic to venture into a rootsier, lighter approach than what we’ve become used to hearing from this East Coast mainstay. At the end of 2020, he released Apparition Edition, a collection of reworked songs from his 2018 album Half Girl Half Ghost. The new versions were stripped down and recorded solo, without his backing band The Corvette Sunset.

Steele carried those same mellow vibes into 2021 when, on June 10th, he released a two song, Americana/Folk EP that features harmonies from another well-known east coast musician in Mo Kenney. The lead off track was called “Falling Asleep at the Metal Show” and today we are very excited to share a fun video for a song that uses comedy to express pure exhaustion and the feeling of being overworked beyond repair.

Regarding the tune, Steele explains:

“Between 2010 and 2014, I worked as a sound technician, pushing faders for legends and locals alike. Part of that gig was working the Sunday night punk and metal shows. After a week of working a day job, gigging, and doing sound on other nights, not even the loudest, most energetic punk show could stop me from nodding off at times.”
