Regina’s Beach Body deliver a brand of indie-pop that oozes an effortless cool. Jazz undertones, bedroom-pop, psych, and adult contemporary come together to create a sound that makes them instantly interesting. They have been a Cups N Cakes favourite since they released their debut EP, Plain Life, at the end of 2017. Our founder, Jeff MacCallum, would later go on to say:

“This EP would have been our #1 (best EP of 2017) if I knew it existed when we put that list together”

Their follow up EP, Curb Ciggiez, was equally loved and did make our list of the Best EPs the following year. Other than a 2-song country EP that was released in 2019, the absence of new music from this incredible band has left a void in our collective hearts.

Today we are very happy to report that said void is about to be filled. Beach Body have announced the release of their debut album, Walking Holiday, on September 24th, through the phenomenal imprint, We Are Busy Bodies. The band wrote the record in spring 2020 while holed up in a cabin in the remote woods of Northern Saskatchewan. They then spent the summer recording the album at SoulSound Studio, a funeral home that’s been converted into a recording studio in Regina.

Today we are extremely happy… no… flat out GIDDY to be premiering the albums second single, “Alex” which, according to the band, is about: “dead friends and the struggle to remain optimistic in a time when all the news seems to be overwhelmingly bad.”

The video is a celebration of friendship, music, nature, good dogs, cross joints, and recreational water safety. It was shot on an old family camcorder during the Walking Holiday demo sessions in Northern Saskatchewan and during the recording of the album at SoulSound Studio in Regina.

Along with today’s premiere comes the announcement of the album release show on October 1, 2021 at The Artesian in Regina. Tickets are available here.
