Video Premiere: Isaac Vallentin - The Neighbourhood

Isaac Vallentin has been steadily developing a reputation for crafting some of the most honest and beautiful folk songs in Canada. Stunning imagery and profound vulnerability have been helping him build a reputation as one of the country’s most gifted singer/songwriters.

On April 1st he released his newest creation, Juma, an album that was four years in the making. His highly lauded 2021 release “…” was actually written and recorded in the middle of Vallentin’s creative process for Juma.

On Vallentin’s Bandcamp page, he give a long breakdown of how Juma came into existence. The story includes many life changing events taking place in the midst of a global pandemic. The story details the cancellation of the original Juma band and sessions to explains how the record finally got recorded with a different band. One great passage explains where the album title came from:

“My eyes moved to the top of the next page where an an italicized word caught my attention: juma. Friday's prayer in Arabic. All of a sudden it felt like my head was going to explode.”

In the story, Vallentin also calls Juma his “highest artistic achievement” and that he made the album “in complete control of my faculties”.

Today, the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to premiere the video for “The Neighbourhood”, one of our favourite tracks from Juma. Check it out below and head over to Isaac Vallentin’s Bandcamp page to support this fantastic artist.
