Video Premiere: Greg Orrē - Blood Moon

Today the Cups N Cakes Network is excited to premiere a new music video from Saskatoon based multidisciplinary artist Greg Orrē (pronounced gregory). The video of for his 2021 single “Blood Moon” and it arrives on the day of the lunar event for which it’s titled. Also of note, it also arrives on the same day that he begins recording his sophomore solo album I Am In It, Vol 2.

The video was created by RAIS (Recording Arts Institute of Saskatoon) film students, and involved a massive production where students created a cardboard set featuring three separately framed but connected scenes. Erin Walton was the video’s director and also choreographed the dancing. The video is inspired by the theatrical spirit of Cabaret and Bob Fosse, and Greg’s own painting of a blood moon that was used for the single’s cover art. Greg plays the Cabaret emcee where he distresses the characters with the spirit of the blood moon.

When asked about the music video, Greg Orrē shared details about how the student-led project evolved:

I had a blast filming– it was a lot of fun to dance and get into character, and the energy of the day truly comes through in this final edit by Erin. RAIS connects local musicians with motion picture arts students to film a music video. There were four students that pitched video treatments for “Blood Moon” and Erin Walton’s cabaret-style concept was the one that made me the most nervous, so I knew I had to give it a try and push myself out of my comfort zone. The project was completed on a tight timeline: they started pre-production on Monday which included making the incredible set…dance rehearsal Wednesday, and then they set things up in the studio late Wednesday night for filming all day Thursday. I am very thankful for all of the energy and work the students put into this project, as well as for the great cast of actors and dancers, and the make-up artist that shared their time and talents.”
