Video premiere: Greg Orrē - From Ocean to River Blue

We’re excited today to premiere the new music video for Saskatoon music scene veteran and Cups N Cakes’ very own Greg Orrē. This is the first video released from his upcoming album I Am In It, Vol 2, planned for a November 2023 release. The video was filmed in Saskatoon by Greg Orrē's wife, Kristen Boyé and was edited by Greg. It showcases the connection between the seasons and the inspiration that Orrē gets from nature, alternating between quick cuts of him singing in their front lawn during winter sunrise scenes and dancing in springtime sunset lilac infused scenes.

The song starts as a piano ballad, with Orrē crooning while he waxes philosophical about the passage of time and seasons. The song kicks off around the 45 second mark, into a jovial baroque pop ditty. The song is an excellent showcase for Orrē’s totally singular singing voice, and he runs the gamut here between the sensitive, soft-spoken intro and outro, and the infectious and bouncy body of the song. From Orrē:

“This song seems like a sibling to the closing track “Energy in Motion” on the 2019 Too Soon Monsoon album Waves: We Provide What We Absorb, We Absorb What We Provide— it was written in the same location by the river, days after that song and it has a lot of the same chords and inspiration, but is more upbeat. It touches on interconnectedness, and speaks to how our hard times and trials need to be recognized, but not dwelled on too deeply that we lose sight of the joy and beauty all around us. It is a song that I find myself returning to play most often when I sit down at my piano. It’s comforting and makes me reflect on my interactions with my environment.”

Watch for more singles from Orrē’s upcoming record I Am In It, Vol 2 to be released before the full record comes out in November of this year.
