A Welcoming To Matthew
As mentioned in our last “Quick Picks” instalment before the holiday break, Jeshaiah David is no longer writing this column anymore. He will be missed but before he left the Quick Picks behind, he graciously handed his column over to Matthew Belton. Today we are very pleased to share with you Matthew’s very first round of Quick Picks. We’re stoked to have Matthew part of the team! Enjoy!
Cortico - Moon
Vancouver’s Cortico craft thoughtful pieces with piano, guitar, bass and drums reminiscent of post-rock pioneers such as Mogwai, and another Vancouver band, Beans. I can easily picture myself at a show jamming out to this with a west coast IPA in my hand. Best listened to while getting introspective.
Petal Supply - Hey
With digital pop songs consisting of pitched vocals, harsh tones, trance stabs, and frantic beats, Petal Supply's EP Hey sounds like EDM's cooler little sister cranking out hits from her bedroom while eating way too much candy. Best listened to at a high school dance on Mars.
The Beach Towels - “We’re Gonna Run Away”
“We’re Gonna Run Away” is a bombastic, yet chill track that is guaranteed to be the perfect soundtrack to your trip to South Beach. With shades of Ride, Lotus Plaza, and even Radiohead’s Palo Alto, you can almost hear the palm trees as you contemplate your Vans.
A.D. Smithh - Various Bandcamp Singles
On Various Bandcamp Singles, lofi, mid tempo jams greet you like a punch in the face from your best friend. You totally had it coming. This EP chugs along like a bully on a BMX who’s got an eye on your ice cream cone and you ain’t moving fast enough.
