ANZU, apples, Les Louanges, and Geoffroy
ANZU – Coasting
In a nostalgic trip to a long lost club, this debut album from Edmonton house duo ANZU is a bumping collection of dance beats, eclectic samples, and a variety of groovy synthesizers. Coasting takes a firm grasp of house music and brandishes an 11 set blade of EDM awesomeness.
apples – About the Future
From British Columbia are apples, a five piece band who take elements of indie rock, shoegaze, and pop and mixes them to form the nine track album About the Future. With poetic lyrics and powerful orchestration, this release will touch the hearts of those who enjoy the heartfelt essence of soft rock.
Les Louanges – Crash
From Montreal’s Les Lousanges is the 15 piece Crash. The album is a secret recipe of R&B, jazz, and soul and presents itself as a dish chock-full of lush instrumentals, soulful melodies, and passionate inspiration. Despite me not understanding French, the poppy elements of this release make it catchy and enjoyable nonetheless.
Geoffroy – Live Slow Die Wise
With a title that takes a different route on the famous Willard Motley quote, this new release from Montreal’s Geoffroy is seven folk songs that feature bone chilling acoustics and Geoffroy’s gritty vocals as he relays to the listener introspective stories of old wisdoms and new problems. It’s a beautiful album through and through.
