Shallow Waves – “Skin”
From Toronto is Shallow Waves, who deliver alternative noise rock from their amps to our un-suspecting ears. With heavy riffs, a constant back drop of noise, and a voice both aggressive and trancelike, this single feels like a tableau taken from the depths of a dark soul.
No Museums – Pale Blue Eyes
Now, I’ve covered this Edmonton-based band before, so my eyes lit up when I saw their first release of ’22, Pale Blue Eyes. Surely named after the Velvet Underground song, this ten track album takes indie rock and gives it a healthy dose of overdrive and folk in a similar vein to Neutral Milk Hotel.
Brain Bent – “Dog Pile”
It’s experimental, it’s alternative, and it’s post-punk new wave excellence. Calgary’s Brain Bent sends out their new single “Dog Pile” with full force. With vast lyrical content, eccentric vocal delivery, and a sound similar to surfer rock on red bull, this is an album to satisfy the craving for punk we have inside us all.
Griefer Studios – Super Station 6 OST
I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for video game soundtracks, so to hear an amalgamation of sounds from the SNES era warms my heart. It’s a shame that Super Station 6 isn’t a real video game, but this Canadian-American electronic duo manages to take my back to sitting in front of an old tube television in the wee hours of the morning.
