Premiere: Cain Price - Open Call
Vancouver’s Cain Price made their way onto our radar in late 2020 with the release of an incredible single called “Vergegnungen.” This track was followed up in July with another great song called “Rest” and the announcement of Open Call, Price’s debut EP. Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very happy to premiere the entire release.
Cain Price is best described as electronic-folk and draws similarities to Bon Iver but labelling an artist this intriguing never does them justice. The music has folk leanings but it’s clearly electronic and boasts arrhythmic instrumentation that demands closer attention. As intriguing as the music can be, the vocals are easily the most captivating part of the EP with Price’s training as a vocal jazz ensemble singer taking centre stage. It’s safe to say that Canada is about to experience one of the more exciting new acts to emerge in recent years.
Thematically, Open Call focuses on narcissism and alienation in the digital age and the title is a tongue-in-cheek reference to open calls that media outlets will put out for content submissions. Price even designed the artwork to look like click bait for individuals attempting to advance their own personal brand.
