Video Premiere: POP POP VERNAC - Heart Set on You
POP POP VERNAC, hailing from Regina, SK, are a fixture over at the Cups N Cakes Network. We premiered a single for them in 2019, reviewed their 2021 release Rapid Fire, and most recently their 2023 EP Screaming Everywhere was chosen as a Quick Pick in March 2023. There is no better way to describe our love for this band than Brandon Kruze’s words about this most recent EP: “…an album chock full of badassery and attitude, and its artsy approach also gives a bit for those avant-garde folks out there”. Today, we’re happy to be premiering the video for “Heart Set On You”, a single from that very same EP.
The video, shot by Matt Carr, is a perfect compliment for the manic, lo-fi vibe of the song. It’s a video collage, largely composed of footage taken around Regina (I believe, at least) around Valentine’s day, with plenty of heart shaped retail displays and the odd discarded stuffed animal featuring. The song gives us more of the irrepressible garage rock energy that POP POP VERNAC has become known for, not far from early Iggy Pop and the Stooges.
